Reinforced Fire Protection

The Legend, Titan and Executive models come standard with the Reinforced Fire Door that incorporates advanced engineering to give you our greatest level of fire protection, 1680⁰F in 90 minutes. Additional fire protection and steel is added to the door without reducing the door's metal thickness, as is the case with other brand safes. This protection will keep the contents of your gun safe at a lower temperature for a much longer period of time. The reinforced Fire Door is also available as an option on the Guardian, Protector and Defender.

Fort Knox gun safes with the new Reinforced Fire Door option (RFD) are designed and tested to withstand severe fire with outside temperatures reaching over 1680⁰F within 90 minutes.

Reinforced Fire Door

Our new Reinforced Fire Door adds a layer of fire protection to either the 3/8" or 1/4" solid plate, then reinforces the door with an additional 10-gauge steel for added security (30% thicker steel than other composite type doors). This nearly doubles the standard fire protection from 1450ºF in 50 minutes to temperatures of 1680ºF in 90 minutes. The Reinforced Fire Door is standard on the Legend, Titan, Executive, Guardian, VD Executive 8240, and In-Swing 8240 models.

“Your valuables deserve the best.” Fort Knox’s superior fire protection is tested to keep the inside of the safe under 350ºF. UL Listed fireboard insulation is used on all 6 sides and behind the hinges to eliminate hot spots or hot pockets. A high temperature, heat sensitive expanding fire seal expands to seal the safe around the entire door on all safes. In addition to the high grade UL listed fireboard and deep bend box, a dead air space is manufactured into the safe which acts as a thermal barrier, much like a thermal pane window, to give added protection. This design provides longer protection at the high temperatures that more resemble an actual house fire.

“Superior Fire Protection gets upgraded!” Fort Knox gives you the option of taking the superior Fire Protection and adding more fireboard insulation to achieve a fire rating that only commercial safes can attain. This additional fire protection will cause a slight decrease in the gun capacity of the safe interior, but it is well worth it!
